Registration for EU/EEA citizens
EU/EEA citizens may start work immediately, but stays longer than three months normally require police registration.
Who must register
If you will live and work in Norway for more than three months, register with the police no later than three months after arrival. Registration is free and normally required only once.
Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Icelandic citizens do not register with the police, but must notify the National Population Register when moving to Norway.
How to register
- Open the employee registration guide at udi.no.
- Create or sign in to your UDI account and complete the form.
- Download and follow the personalised checklist.
- Prepare valid ID and the signed employment contract or certificate.
- Book the appointment and attend in person.
Before the appointment
- Bring a valid national identity card or passport.
- Bring proof of employment.
- Staffing-agency employees need documentation for at least one specific assignment.
- Use an authorised or certified translation for documents not in Norwegian or English.
