Thinking of moving to Norway, but unsure how your employment would work? An Employer of Record (EOR) in Norway may help you arrange local employment, whether you have a Norwegian assignment or want to explore moving with an overseas role.
What does an Employer of Record do?
An EOR becomes your legal employer in Norway while you carry out work for another company. It handles your employment contract, payroll, tax withholding, holiday pay, pension and relevant insurance. The client company manages your day-to-day work.
Do you need a job or assignment first?
You will normally need an agreed role or assignment and a company willing to enter into the arrangement. An EOR provides the employment structure; it does not guarantee you a job. The proposed work must also qualify under Norwegian employment rules.
Can you keep your overseas job?
If your employer is open to you moving, an EOR arrangement may be worth exploring. Their agreement is essential, and the role, working arrangements and Norwegian rules need to be assessed before you relocate. Permission to work remotely is only part of the picture.
Does an EOR give you the right to live in Norway?
EOR employment does not automatically give you residence or work rights. These depend on your nationality and immigration status. A local EOR provider may support your visa.
What should you check before choosing an EOR?
Ask who will employ you, whether the arrangement suits your role, and what the quote includes. Request a clear breakdown of gross wages, employer costs, fees and estimated net pay. Also check who you can contact when you need help.
